'PARC TONDU HISTORIC IRONWORKS HERITAGE PARK'    TONDU,  WALES    2006

For the first time in 117 years Iron was poured at Parc Tondu, we placed the furnace upon the original site of the Historic Furnace. The Sculpture Cast is based on the design of bricks that where found and still remain on the site. Members of the Wildmill Youth Center collected impressions in plasticene from the site which we then collaged together. Special Thanks to everyone who made this project possible including The Wildmill Youth Center, Dilys Jackson, Laura Hilton of Groundwork, Harvey Hood of Berllanderi Sculpture Workshop, Sarah Lawton, Andy Griiffith and his students from Carmarthen School of Art, Wales.

'DISCOVER  SCULPTURE  EXPLORE  LANESBORO'

HISTORY     :     COMMUNITY       :       NATURE      :       CULTURE      :     EDUCATION

In the summers of 2001 and 2002, Sculptor Coral Lambert was commissioned to create the first Public Artwork for Lanesboro, a small town in Southwest Minnesota, USA. Her residency resulted in Five Large Medallions and 13 smaller Markers in cast iron that celebrate the culture and history of Lanesboro. These sculptures lead visitors on a treasure hunt journey of discovery and exploration.

All ages of the community contributed artwork and objects for inclusion in the design. Here we see scale model houses being made for ‘Community’ which is located by the bandstand in Sylvan Park. (see map below)  In addition to the workshops, a suitable route was researched with the help of locals.  Information was gathered from Lanesboro residents such as Historian Don Ward shown here using plasticene to make an impression of a Norwegian Waffle Iron from the Lanesboro History Museum. Artist Karl Unnasch, a native of Lanesboro was an assistant on the project, He is pictured above with Lambert working on one of the sand molds and pouring iron.  Old cast iron radiators, some from homes near Lanesboro were broken up and melted at temperatures reaching 2750 F in Lambert's portable Iron Furnace using coke and air. The sculptors wear protective gear, helmets and leather jackets.  The Casting took place at Sylvan Park where over a 1000# of Iron was melted to cast the sculptures.
